How to Remove Apps on iPad

Removing apps from an iPad is a straightforward process that can free up storage space and improve device performance. Whether you’re looking to delete third-party applications or built-in Apple apps, this post will guide you through all the easy steps.

1. Choose the App

You can find the app you want to remove on your home screen or use the App Library to search for it.

To access the App Library, swipe left past all your home screen pages until you reach it.

2. Enter Jiggle Mode

Once you’ve chosen the app, press and hold the app icon until the options appear.

If the apps start to jiggle:

Tap the minus (-) icon > Select Delete App > Tap Delete.

3. Confirm Deletion

When you delete an app, your iPad will prompt you to confirm the decision.

Tap Delete to permanently remove the app. Keep in mind that this action cannot be undone unless you re-download the app from the App Store.

Remember: deleting an app will also remove its data.

4. Remove Built-in Apple Apps

Since iPadOS 14, Apple allows users to delete certain built-in apps. These include Calendar, Calculator, FaceTime, Podcasts, Maps, and others.

However, not every built-in app can be removed. Messages, Safari, and App Store must stay on your device.

Touch and hold the app icon > Tap Remove App > Select Delete App > Tap Delete.

5. Offload Unused Apps

If you don’t want to completely delete an app but need to save storage space, Apple iPads offer an Offload App feature. This removes the app itself but keeps its documents and data.

When you reinstall the app later, your data will be restored automatically.

Go to Settings > General > iPad Storage > Select the app > Tap Offload App.

What Happens When You Delete an App?

When you delete an app from your iPad, the application and all of its data such as settings, files, and cache are permanently removed, although you can reinstall it later from the App Store without repurchasing.

However, deleting an app does not cancel any active subscriptions linked to it, so you’ll need to manage those separately in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.

Apple explains the process in more detail in their official support guide.

Conclusion

Removing apps from your iPad is a simple process that can optimize your device’s performance and storage. Following these steps can help you easily manage the apps on your Apple iPad, ensuring it remains efficient to your needs. Remember to regularly review and remove apps you no longer use to keep your device running well.
